The Instituto do Envelhecimento (Institute of Ageing) at the University of Lisbon is an autonomous research unit whose primary objective is to undertake research in the interdisciplinary studies of ageing, including demography and social sciences (sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, law, geography, etc.) with links to Bio-Medicine and Epidemiology. It is also dedicated to the promotion of scientific education in studies of ageing, including postgraduate studies, as well as the organization of activities of scientific communication and openness to society. It also participates in studies and evaluation of public policies related to the ageing population.
